We are four girls who are making a final paper about boundary marks, both old and new ones.

Our main goal is to make a small textbook that will help others in their search for boundary marks in the field.

The chief of the severance department of Hordaland County, Per Kåre Sky, is both our employer and mentor.

Here are some of the questions we are trying to find the answer to:

• What does the boundary marks look like?
• How common are they?
• Where do we find the boundary marks? In urban or rural areas?
• What is the procedure in other countries?

It exist some literature on the subject, but we have found only two useful final papers:

• "Grensemerker i Norge. Lovbestemmelser, instrukser og metoder" (Boundary marks in Norway. Laws, instructions and methods) from 1970 by Harald S. Haraldstad.
• "Grensemerker" (Boundary marks) from 1983 by Sivert Moen Jr.

We will also write about our research (literature, field work, interviews, etc.), some historic background, foreign boundary marks and nature-made boundary marks (details in the topography such as small mountaintops, distinct looking rocks, rivers and creeks, etc).
