The Palatal approximant
The palatal approximant is produced by the front of the tongue being raised towards the hard palate almost in the position of the vowel . There is no friction. The sound always precedes a vowel, and is more front before front vowels than before back vowels. Lips are rounded if the following vowel is rounded.
