The Moving Frame Method

There are five demonstrations of the Moving Frame Method.

Please be aware: undergraduate students created these. Do not lost sight of this.

The Moving Frame Method makes dynamics easy. It invites the introduction of artificial intelligence into the dynamics of machines.

In all cases, if you choose, click on the gold title bar for information.

All projects are still underconstruction, but the basic idea, math, physics, coding -- is all here.

Several are highly unstable--this is expected. The next step is to introduce Predictor Corrector algorithms.
  1. Left mouse rotates
  2. Middle mouse pans
  3. Right mouse zooms
  4. Turn on or off motors
  5. All algorithms become unstable since a simple Forward Difference is used.

Crane on boat

In this demonstration, one turns on the motor for both the crane strut and crane arm. As the two massive links rotate, it induces a reverse rotation on the boat. DEPENDING WHERE YOU PLACE THE CRANE, this becomes highly numerically unstable and a shorter time step is needed. That option to input is pending. Turn on DAMPING to reduce the instability in all cases.

Numerical Methods

Not only is this a simulation, but students are also building it. The plot windows will display conservation of energy. In this way, students will assess the numerical methods used to integrate the equations of motion.

Gyroscopic Wave Energy Converter

This is still under construction. When it is complete, the plot windows will display the power generated by a gyroscopic wave energy device that can supply energy to fish farms.

Subsea ROV motion

In this demonstration, two robotic arms attached to the ROV carry a heavy weight. This, in turn, induces the motion of the ROV

Stability and Control

This combines both the crane and a gyroscopic wave energy device. Zoom in toward the front of the boat to see the gyroscopic inertial devices. If it is turned on, it will stabilize the motion induced by the crane. This invites the use of Control Theory.

NOTE: the gyroscopic stabilizer has not yet been activated. The model could take about 30 seconds to load.
